Creativity means thinking of new ways to do things. When faced with a problem, creative people define the issue clearly and then come up with multiple solutions.

There are so many different ways in which you can be creative. These include writing (developing ideas), art, music, craft and even using an everyday household object in a new way. The girl who thought in pictures is about Temple Grandin, a scientist who used her ability to think differently to solve some important problems.

Open-mindedness is thinking things through and examining them from all sides. It means being open to different people and ideas and changing your own beliefs if necessary.

Open minded people treat others fairly, they are empathetic and are good at looking at both sides of the story. They are unbiased and good at considering the views of others.

In the following stories, talk about your bias as a reader towards a tough looking pirate and how this bias changes as you get to know the character. Then, think about the bias of the mother towards the bikies.



People with wisdom are wise and understand what is important in life. Having wisdom means being able to give advice and recognising different sides before making decisions.

People with wisdom are often understanding and have a bank of knowledge or learning from the past that they use to choose from. They think before they speak or offer advice.





Persistence means I work hard to finish what I start. I don’t give up.

“If Perseverance (persistence) is your top strength, you work hard to
finish what you start. No matter the project, you “get it out the door” in
timely fashion. You do not get distracted when you work, and you take
satisfaction in completing tasks”.

According to Angela Duckworth it is “grit” that makes people
successful. Grit is a combination of passion and persistence
(perseverance) and can grow. Grit is a bit like drive and is the secret to
outstanding achievement.


Gratitude & Mindfulness

Gratitude means being thankful for the good things that happen to you and thanking others often.

Mindfulness means paying full attention to something. It means slowing down to really notice what you’re doing and taking your time.

This week why don’t you have a go at paying attention to all the things that you’re grateful for? (i.e. being mindfully thankful?) This will be sure to boost your wellbeing.
